Sam "Sonny" Guercio, 84, Avon Lake, passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Guercio was born June 8, 1927 in Rocky River and has lived in Avon Lake for the past 57 years.

Guercio began his working career as a greenhouse glazier. For a time he worked for the Avon Lake Sewer Department and then worked for BF Goodrich as a lab technician. He retired in 1986. During this time, he also did carpentry work for many in the community.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Busch Funeral Home. His mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 at St. Joseph's Church, 32929 Lake Rd. Avon Lake.
