5 of 15 Council Applicants Selected for Second Interviews
New member expected to be sworn in Jan. 23
Five of the original 15 applicants to fill a vacated council seat have been selected for second interviews on Jan. 21. The six remaining council members will select one individual to be appointed to replace the at-large seat held by Greg Zilka.
Zachary Arnold, Robert Brooks, Andrew Perry, John Shondel and Michael Sherban will each interview again with current council members beginning at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21.
Fifteen residents applied for the council-at-large seat vacated by former council president Zilka when he was sworn in as Avon Lake mayor this month. Two years remain for that seat.
Council is expected to select one of the candidates soon after the interviews are complete and that person will be sworn in Jan. 23.
The original 15 were: Arnold, Greenwood Drive; Brooks, Teasel Court; William Gallagher, Fieldstone Circle; Sharon Givler, Carriage Lane; Frank Hamister, Long Pointe; Ian Hessel, Sorrento Lane; Holly Kowalski, Captains Galley; Perry, Woodfield Drive; Erica Powers, Redwood Boulevard; Neil Rush, Highland Avenue; William Shelton, Monaco Place; Sherban, Pondside Drive; Shondel, Greenbriar Drive; Jim Simonovich, Quail Hollow Circle; Stacy Stary, Coveland.
Brooks and Arnold are recent presidents of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club.
