A Time to Remember
Avon VFW sponsors Memorial Day parade and ceremonies
Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars post 7035, along with Avon Boy Scout Troop 333 are hosting this year's Avon Memorial Day Parade on May 30.
The parade will start at 9 a.m. in front of the Avon Senior Center and continue east, ending at the Avon Center at the intersections of Routes 83 and 254. A brief memorial ceremony will conclude the parade.
Avon VFW commander Andy Feuchter said that veterans and non-veterans are all encouraged to come and participate in the event.
“We like to see people from the community come out and show their support for their local veterans,” he said. “So everyone in the community is invited to and march with us,” he added.
At the conclusion of the parade, the VFW will continue the memorial services by stopping at Resthaven Memory Gardens and also at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
These services will also be open to anyone wishing to attend.
For those traveling on Memorial Day, Detroit Road will be closed from the Avon Senior Center east to Route 83 from 9 a.m. until the parade’s conclusion.
