Avon High Alum Biking Across Ohio to Fight Cancer
Katie Kocar will do just about anything to raise money for cancer research.
Avon High grad Katie Kocar found her calling in 2008 when her 7-year-old neighbor died of cancer.
Since then, Kocar -- a BGSU student -- has found ways to creatively raise money to help fight the disease. Last year, she participated in a dance marathon; this year, it's her goal to bike 180 miles from Cincinnati to Bowling Green, Cleveland.com reports.
She aims to raise $1,000 for the university and its hospital affiliates.
To condition herself for the ride, Kocar has been using bikes at the BGSU student rec center.
142 bikers, including fellow Avon High alum Sarah Grandon, will make the trip.
Kocar has set up an online donation page for contributions.
