JVS Carpentry students constructed a ‘Little House on the Prairie’ display for the Lorain County Metro Parks Annual Holiday Lights event recently, and an Avon student proved instrucmental.
Avon resident Katelynn Murphy chose the theme and searched the Internet for house designs. Other students joined the effort and researched possible designs for the well, chicken coop, barn yard and buckboard wagon.
“Tthe students really came together on this project," instructor Ron Gresco said. "It was a snowball effect – one great idea led to another. They all were proud of their work.”
In addition to the Carpentry junior and senior students working on the project, students from Eric Robson’s Career Readiness Lab also assisted in the assembly, painting and staining of the display pieces.
The display will be transported to the Metro Parks and the students will decorate the various elements with Christmas lights.
The Metro Park’s Holiday Lights display is running Nov. 24 through Dec. 30. The display will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for Christmas. Hours are 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 6 p.m. -10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
