Avon Lake Businessman Will Seek Ward 1 Council Seat
William Gallagher, president of Suntan Supply will run in General Election
The president of Suntan Supply in Avon has announced his intent to run for the Ward 1 seat in Avon Lake.
William E. Gallagher, a five-year resident of Avon Lake was recognized in the November 2010 issue of Crains Business Magazine as a top “40 Business Professionals under the age of 40 in Northeast Ohio.”
He lives on Fieldstone Circle.
Gallagher cited economic development—and specifically retaining present businesses and attracting new businesses—as a primary area of concern in Avon Lake. He cites his experience running Suntan Supply, which employs more than 100, as a reason why he understands business owners concerns and needs.
“I believe my business ownership, and my experience in budgeting, forecasting costs, investing and being fiscally responsible will benefit not only the residents of Ward 1 but the entire city of Avon Lake,” Gallagher said.
Gallagher said he understands business owners concerns and needs since he is a business owner himself and he believes this should help in addressing the vacant storefront concerns in the city.
“I would also support the continued investment in maintaining city streets, and the continuation of the sewer separation projects and the continual upgrade of Walker Road Park as well as the various neighborhoods major parks for the residents use,” Gallagher said.
Gallagher is also commercial real estate agent and part owner of a family construction company that specializes in retail store construction.
The candidate is involved with numerous community activities and said Avon Lake’s school system was a factor in moving to the community.
“My wife Joy and our three children decided to move to Avon Lake five years ago to take advantage of the excellent school system and become actively involved in the community,” he said.
In addition to coaching his children in various Avon Lake sports he recently assisted in establishing an Avon Lake third and fourth-grade tackle football league.
Gallagher is a trustee on the Bridgeside Home Owners Association, a board member of the Avon Montessori School and sits on the committee for The Blessing House annual fund raiser which helps provide funding for Lorain County displaced children.
Ward 1 Councilman Tim Rush said he will not be seeking re-election in the November General Election. Gallagher will face lawyer Robert James, who announced his candidacy for the Ward 1 seat in March.

Bill's contributions to the community have only just begun. He runs a tight ship and that's what we expect from a good councilman.

I'm not a Ward 1 resident and, in fairness, I do not know Mr. Gallagher. I only wish I had read that his business was located in Avon Lake too.
