Avon Lake Police Investigating Thefts, Including $12,000 in Silverware
Silverware is stolen from home on Lear Road
Avon Lake Police Department is investigating a trio of thefts that occurred in the city in the last week.
On Feb. 27, a resident of the 300 block of Lear Road reported that their set of sterling silverware had been stolen from the home earlier.
The set is estimated to be worth more than $12,000.
Then, on Feb. 28, jewelry was reported stolen from a home in the 300 block of Lear Road.
The stolen jewelry includes a diamond ring, gold heart pendant and a wedding band, according to the police report.
Finally, the manager of the Taco Bell on Avon Belden called police on March 3 to report that money had been stolen from the story.
Anyone with information on any of the three thefts is encouraged to call the Avon Lake Police Department at 440-933-4567.

We currently have at least five Avon Lake youths awaiting trial or sentencing on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and kidnapping. Still, the crimes continue. Fortunately for the homeowners, nobody was home when these thugs broke in to steal their property, or the outcome could have been worse.
Despite this, we still have people who feel a person does not have the right to bear arms to defend themselves and their families against such attacks. At some point, these criminals will break into the "wrong" house, and be welcomed by a terrified homeowner who will exercise his rights under the Castle Doctrine, only to be met by complaints from the anti-Second Amendment rights groups that they used excessive force. I for one prefer to to meet an intruder with the words "I have a gun", rather than "please don't hurt my family".

Too many people are promoting propaganda by equalizing "the right to bear arms" with "banning military style weapons". They ARE NOT one and the same!

Linda,
Even if we ignore the Amendment’s obvious purpose, a ban on “military style weapons” is still blatantly unconstitutional. It’s like saying that the freedom of religion means you can have most religions, but not Islam.
Would a ban on Islam be constitutional? Of course not. The same goes for banning “some” guns. Any gun ban is a violation of the Second Amendment. This is unavoidable.
Unfortunatley, some people have chosen to define "military style weapons" using their own terms. Thusly, they want to ban anything that meets THEIR "definition". It seems to matter not to them that their definition stands alone when compared to the traditional definition - it works to their agenda and that's all they care about. That sort of action should be criminalized, not the gun.
A military style weapon is defined by those ignorant about firearms based on the weapon's purely cosmetic features. A pistol grip does not change the function of the firearm, it makes no difference whatsoever!! There are many, many more types of firearms which are more lethal, but look less scary, which are not considered a 'military style weapon".
Yes, the right to bear arms does include "military style weapons". They are one and the same. Those who disagree are generally ignorant of exactly what a "military style weapon" is. I would like to hear your specific definition and how a ban would make Avon Lake a safer place to live?
