This was not how things were supposed to end.

The Avon High School Eagles' amazing football season came to a close Friday night with a 42-28 loss to undefeated Trotwood-Madison in the OHSAA Division II state championship game at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon.

The Eagles fell behind early, trailing by as many as 21 points.

Avon rallied in the second half, getting within a touchdown, 35-28, late in the third quarter. But Trotwood-Madison let the Eagles get no closer, and got a touchdown with about 6:35 left in the game to go up, 42-28. Avon wasn't able to come back from that.

Avon finished the season at 13-2. Trotwood-Madison is 15-0.

Congrats Avon for a good season. It just wasn't meant to be. This was our destiny and we couldn't and wouldn't be stopped.

Grace and poise? Please tell us what we did that was wrong? Disrespectful? Please remember that we were in your shoes last year. We know the pain. We cried on the podium as the runner up as your boys did last night. What happened in the game happened in the game. Don't blame us for what the refs didn't call. But we did nothing wrong after the game that YOU wouldn't have done if the tables were turned, which was nothing but celebrate a PERFECT season and a first state championship for our city. Don't hate. You will be back sooner than you think. But until then...all hail RAM NATION! 15-0!!!!

No team bashing here. Just don't say we were disrespectful with no grace and poise. We did nothing wrong.

Why argue with someone that does not use their full name? The only Trice I know is Obie Trice III, the rapper. It was a good run and fun; I feel confident that Avon will return in the future and more importantly with the Avon community support our students will be more secure and productive people because of their experience.

To Trice: Trotwood played a great game against Avon and won which I congratulate the team on. It was just not a very classy move for players to remove clothing "in celebration" especially when they hadn't lined up to shake the opponents hands. I do know for a fact that there were a few class acts from the Trotwood that took time and stepped aside from their celebration to talk to some Avon players. That was awesome. But again just not understanding why some players felt the need to remove their team jersey and in one case more - only player only had left on football pants - yes shoes were even taken off by this player - and in 30 degree weather. Just not understanding this at all........
