For the twelfth straight year, the Avon School District has earned an “excellent” rating from the state, after the Ohio Department of Education released final scores.
“Obviously, we’re very proud,” Avon Superintendent of Schools Mike Laub said. “It has everything in the world to do with our incredibly supportive community and great staff. Our kids, our parents and staff make the difference.
“Our staff, I’m so impressed with our staff. We’ve been excellent 12 years in a row. All that put together is a recipe of good results.”
The district missed the “with Distinction” honor having met, but not exceeded the “value added” component. The district did meet the Adequate Yearly Progress requirements (AYP).
“That is supposed to be a measure of how effective we are with certain subgroups,” Laub said.
To meet an indicator, the district must meet a minimal 75 percent. The lowest score Avon received was an 83.7 percent in 5th-grade mathematics.

Hmmm - isn't that great. Avon should be very proud. I wish Superintendent Laub would share his secrets with the Avon Lake superintendent. Laub achieves success at half the price per pupil of Avon Lake, but Avon Lake is intent on bleeding us all dry with the proposed new levy!!!

We will have Avon Lake's results posted tomorrow. Both districts received very high scores.

Following up on Laurie's comment - I would like to see a comparison between the 2 districts. Include the enrollment stats for each district. Compare ALL costs and services - such as number of AP courses offered. What is the pay to play for sports and music? Does Avon or Avon Lake offer a program that the other district does not offer? If such a list is available, I hope the Patch and the Press will publish it.
