Best Pizza in Avon and Avon Lake? We’ve Got the Answer

Avon's pizza shops took the lead this year.

Looking for the best pizza? You may need to head to Avon, where the three winners of this year’s Avon / Avon Lake Rotary Pizza Bake-Off are from.

Four the fourth time in five years, Avon’s Coleone’s Pizza has earned the “People’s Choice” award from the Bake-Off, held at Avon Lake High School Oct. 4.

Best Pepperoni pizza was from Antonio’s of Avon, a new participant this year. Best Specialty Pizza went to Cici’s (Avon), who served up the winning Mac n Cheese Pizza. Also participating this year were Domino’s, Doughboy’s and Romeo’s pizza shops.

More than 660 people came to the all-you-can-eat event hosted by the Avon-Avon Lake Rotary Club. The event is the club’s major fundraiser.

Event co-chair Frank Krempasky said the organization did not have a final tally on how much money was raised but expected it to be noteworthy.

“I can say it was more than last year and each year the event continues to grow in the community, Krempasky said. Bob Murphy also co-chairs the event.

Funds go into the Avon / Avon Lake Rotary Foundation for scholarships and other local community charity causes.

Congratulations to all the participants of the Rotary Pizza Bake-off. Personally, one of my favorite slices was the Chicken Club Pizza presented by Doughboy. Good food, good participation and absolutely wonderful for the Rotary Scholarship Fund!

I was disappointed with Antonio's pizza because I attended early- just after 5:00 and they were only serving pepperoni pizza. When I asked about other kinds, they told me they would have specialty pizza later in the evening. What about the people, like me who decided to come early?? Not a great way to generate business for a new pizza shop!

Do any Avon Lake residents wish there was a nice sit down pizzaria in town that served great pizza, beer & wine? Something like Sweet Basils in Westlake. There's nothing in our area where you can sit down and enjoy a good pie. I'm not talking about a pizza buffett mad house like CiCi's either. Thoughts?

Totally agree. I love Sweet Basil. We also go out of our way to go to Danny Boy's in River. Was confused when they left - though the location in AL was take out only. Bummer. :(

Have you been to Wood & Wine in Avon, Bill? Nice wood-fired pizzas and a good wine list.

When it comes to Mason Ohio restaurants, Aponte’s is by far one of the BEST in “Traditional Italian Food”.
Apont's is best for its traditional Pizza
