Avon Lake Police Lt. Duane Streator said the body of a missing Cleveland-area man was recovered Thursday morning. The man went missing in the waters off Miller Road Park beach at 8:36 p.m. July 4.

"At 7:30 a.m. we received a call from the security personnel at GenOn Power Plant that they observed a body floating in the water," Streator said in a press release. "Avon Lake Fire and Police personnel responded and located a male approximately 20 yards into the water near the power plant discharge area. His body was recovered and taken to shore.

The Lorain County Coroners office was contacted and the body was transported to the morgue.

The man is identified as 23-year-old Anthony Norman of Bristoville, Ohio.  Notification was made to his immediate family members who had remained at Miller Road Park during the night.

Norman was fishing in a group of six when he went under the water. Area police and fire personnel joined members of the Coast Guard and the Lorain County Dive Team in a four-hour search the evening of July 4.

The search was called off near 1 a.m. July 5.

This is so sad! I lost a friend in the waters of Lake Erie in 1988! It was horrific! We all stayed vigil at the lake hours at a time along with his family. It was hard! What teally made it harder on me than other friends he was a neighbor as well as a friend. Our families were friends! When they finally found him he was in really bad shape due to high waves and rough waters. He kept getting washed up into the bank wall made of shail rock!
