Cleveland Clinic Opening New Avon ER on Sept. 5

Richard E. Jacobs Health Center's ER is 15,000 square feet.

The Cleveland Clinic Richard E. Jacobs Health Center will be opening a new,

24-hour adult and pediatric services emergency department, (located off Nagle Road) on Sept. 5.

While the facility is not a trauma center, it is fully functioning emergency department that offers all the services one would find at an Emergency Department at a hospital, including imaging technology and full laboratory capabilities, including blood bank access.

The center will be staffed around-the-clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by board-certified emergency care physicians, including adult and pediatric services.

The site will also feature  helipad.

The 24-hour onsite helipad and helicopter will be available when the emergency department opens on Sept. 5 for instant accessibility for critically ill patients who need transported to another location,” Clinic public relation employee Tanika Hawley said via email.

The department is approximately 15,000-sq.-ft. and will add 70 new jobs to the Richard E. Jacobs Health Center. This includes physicians, nurses, emergency medicine technicians (EMTs), financial coordinators, laboratory service technicians and front-end schedulers.

The addition brings the total of staff t the center to 350.  

Prior to the opening, the center will host an EMS Mock Training Day for fire and EMS department personnel from surrounding communities including Avon, Avon Lake, Bay Village, the Sheffield area, Westlake and emergency department employees.

 The event will consist of several different scenarios and tasks, mock patients, transport services – including ‘patients’ being flown in and out via helicopter.
