Cleveland Pops, ALHS Chorale Performance is Dec. 3

The fifth annual joint concert will raise money for schools' scholarship fund.

It just wouldn’t be the holiday season without the Cleveland Pops Orchestra coming to Avon Lake.

The Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Club is sponsoring “Deck the Halls,” a holiday concert performance by the Pops featuring the Avon Lake High School Chorale on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Daniel B. Ross, Ph.D. Performing Arts Center at Avon Lake High School.

Rotary Club member Tom Brock said the students really look forward to this event every year.

“This is definitely a big-time platform for them,” said Brock, who is also co-chair of the event.

Brock said he expects about 700 people to attend the concert, which will also raise money for the scholarship fund at Avon and Avon Lake high schools.

The Pops will be under the direction of Carl Topilow, its founder, who’s guest-conducted more than 90 orchestras around the word.

A spokesperson for the Pops could not be reached for comment.

The event has become a staple fundraiser for both Avon and Avon Lake high schools since its launch five years ago.

Brock said the Ross Center at ALHS is the perfect venue for this event.

“The acoustics in there are just astounding,” Brock said. “It’s a beautiful facility.”

Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children 13 and under, and can be purchased at ALHS, Avon Lake Printing, Peter and Co. Jewelers, or from Rotary members.

For those who don’t purchase their tickets in advance, Brock said there are usually tickets available at the door.
