Council Has Fast Meeting

Work projects three of the six items on agenda

In a quick work session Monday night, Avon City Council discussed ordinances covering the Avon Fire Department, road work and sewer work.

Fire chief Frank Root was at the meeting to talk about a memorandum of understanding with the regionalized search-and-rescue. Law director John Gasior said that the understanding will not involve additional city funds, but will involve manpower of fire department employees if they are called on.

Engineering director Robert Knopf introduced three items related to public works projects. One is on improvements around the intersection of Detroit and Long Roads.

"There's ponding just about any time it rains," Knopf said. He is seeking approval to advertise for bids on the project, which could get underway in August. The project will inlude new storm sewer lines.

"That area's needed this a long time," mayor Jim Smith said.

Knopf also is looking to advertise for bids on some sanitary sewer work and water line installation at Nagel Road and Chester Road, and awarding a bid for asphalt paving projects in the city, including on Stoney Ridge and Center Roads.
