Eagles Win Avon Holiday Tournament
Senior guard R.J. Kaufmann stands out in wins over Keystone, Clearview
It's always good when you are the host of a holiday tournament, but even better to take part in and win the tourney's championship game.
That's exactly what the Avon Eagles did Wednesday night when they defeated Clearview, 48-42, to win the Avon Holiday Tournament.
Guard R.J. Kaufmann scored a game-high 16 points and forward Marvin Coleman added 11 points to led Avon's winning effort. The Eagles senior scored 10 of his 16 points from the free throw line to help Avon (6-1) jump out to a 12-point lead (42-30) entering the final quarter. Kaufmann also starred in Avon's 70-59 win over Keystone on December 27 to advance to the championship game, scoring 30 points after a five-day layoff.
Despite the low-scoring game, Avon coach Jim Baker had nine players who scored against Clearview.
The Eagles' next game is January 7 at Vermilion. They are home January 11 to face Midview. Both games are 7:30 pm start times.
