'Fall into Avon' Scarecrow Competition Accepting Entries

This year's winner will receive $1,000

Event planners for this year’s Fall into Avon are looking for creative people or groups to participate in a Scarecrow Design Competition and are willing to pay for it.

To inspire participation, a $1,000 grand prize is being offered as are prizes for second and third-place winners, and a special children’s category.

Entries will be accepted starting Aug. 1 so get going on your scarecrow.

“We would love to see at least 200 entries in this year’s competition” Lori Miles, president of the French Creek Merchants and owner of Details & The Littlest Details, said.  “Gathering ideas, creating and executing a scarecrow design is a great activity for the entire family, and a great summer activity. We are encouraging families, groups, organizations and business owners to ‘think outside the box’ and create a truly unique design.”

To enter, fill out the Scarecrow Entry Form.

The scarecrows will be on display throughout the French Creek District during the Fall into Avon (also known as the Country Living Festival) weekend, Sept. 8  and 9, and will be judged by local personalities at a concluding ceremony.  The scarecrows will remain on display throughout the season.

For more than two decades, residents of Avon and the Greater Cleveland area have flocked to Avon for the event that celebrates the start of the fall season.

The event will also feature a classic car show on Sept. 8.

Individuals interested in showing their classic card should contact Fran Burik at 440-934-4420 for entry information.

Antique dealers from the region gather in Avon to display and sell their treasures. French Creek merchants feature fall décor for the home and seasonal fashions for men, women and children, while Many businesses offer special discounts during the festival.

Avon restaurants offer gourmet specials during The Taste of Avon. The event also features live music, exhibits and children’s contests and activities.
