Purina Issues Pet Food Recall — Animals Could Die if Food Ingested Over Long Period of Time
Check to see if you have these products. Some side effects of eating too much food with elevated vitamin D levels include lack of interest in eating and joint stiffness.
Due to potentially elevated vitamin D levels, Land O’Lakes Purina Feed issued a voluntary recall on some of its pet food this past Friday.
Elevated vitamin D levels may cause death to animals and fish if ingested for extended periods of time. Other side effects include: lack of interest in eating, weight loss and possible joint stiffness, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration press release.
Although no customer complaints have been received, the following products are being recalled as a precaution:
- WellSolve W/C (Item #: 0066925)
- WellSolve W/G (Item #: 0046451)
- Game Fish Chow (Item #: 0001363)
- Catfish 32 (Item #: 0040967)
- Catfish Chow (Item #: 0007136)
- Minnow Chow (Item #: 0006569)
The pet food was distributed nationwide starting April 2, 2012 through May 8, 2012.
Customers are asked to return any remaining products to their local store or dealer for a refund. For more information on the recall, call Land O’Lakes customer service at 1-800-522-3354.

I first thought it funny and asked my catfish and minnows and they didn't experience any joint pain or stiffness. But then I looked up WellSolve with C and G and see that is for horses. I am sure that would be a serious problem if you were feeding horses.

Indeed, thanks for the comment, Ruth. My goldfish seem to be okay as well. :)

Made in China? Wake up people. Read the label. Unless it says "made in America" or "manufactured in USA" there is a good chance it comes from a country where there is no government oversite into what goes into the food. If the label merely says "distributed by" and lists an address in this country it is not made here. There are plenty of brands to choose from that are made in the USA and they do not cost more than the Chinese crap.

I follow that policy also, Bill.

Actually most of the big name pet foods, really don't care about the product they put out, they outsource the products to companies that produce mass amounts of pet foods and no quality control including harmful dyes. The ingredints are garbage too. The reason they dominate the market is consumers don't know any better and these big companies spend millions monthly on advertising.
Boycott these big companies and do your research and select smaller companies that stand behind thier products with superior ingredients and find out where the food is actually made.

So true. Also, if anyone really knew how long canned pet food will last in that can, no one in their right mind would ever, ever willingly feed it to a pet, or any other living creature.

There is a discussion on Sutori.com about this very problem, Chinese foods/animal foods and clothing touching our bodies are all very dangerous. Our government may not be willing to admit it....but China is definitely at war with us.
