Letter to the Editor: Chili Cook-Off Winners and a Thank You

Find out where to get your favorite chili. See below for winners and numbers of those in the competition.

To the Editor:

The avon lake landmark preservation society, more commonly known as the Folger Home, hosted its 10th annual taste of chili cook-off on Nov. 12. We served over 200 patrons, and despite it being crowded and hectic at times, the patrons thoroughly enjoyed the samples, bowls of their favorite, hot dogs, desserts, and a tour of the Folger construction.

Congratulations to this year’s winner: Wendy’s!

Coleone’s of Avon earned 2nd place, and Stella’s won 3rd place.

This successful fundraiser simply could not take place without the overwhelming generosity and support of so many local establishments and people.

Restaurants donating chili, along with their sampler number are Athena’s (6), Rio Café (1), Fratello’s (8), Jake’s On Lake (3), Wendy’s (2), Chili’s of Great Northern (10), Stella’s and her famous rolls (7), Casita Del Lago (6), Las Cazuelas (5), And Coleone’s Of Avon (4). Now you know where to get a bowl of your favorite.

Florists donating stunning centerpieces for our raffle include Diederich, Puskas, Sisson’s, Hen & Ivy, Zelek, Secret Garden, Life in Bloom, Bonaminio’s, and Carol Scherry.

A huge round of applause to other local businesses who donated to our raffle this year:  Avon Lake Parks & Rec. $125 family pool pass; Buffalo Wild Wings $20 gift card; Donato’s pizza $25 in gift cards; Coleone’s free large 2 item pizza; Sisson’s $15 in gift cards; Petitti’s $20 gift card; Deena LaVigne 1 hr. Reiki session; Chili’s of Great Northern $60 in gift cards. There were 22 prizes in all, and so many tickets bought that we made three times what we normally make from the raffle. Congratulations to the raffle winners Karl, Larry, Kathy, Tom, Collier, Ed, Denny, Donna, Pam, Teri, Dee, Doug, Ralph, Linda, Matt, Lisa, Rosemary, Dan, Gerry, Jacob, Elfie and Nancy.

A sincere special thanks to Ralph Miller, the 13th name pulled, who chose the Family Pool Pass and then passed it on to a jumping little boy in the crowd, anxiously awaiting his turn, #20. That was Jacob Bir, who then let Ralph pick and keep what he wanted. Inside sources say that Jacob is wearing his swimming trunks to school today. What a great community we live in!
