Letter to the Editor: Zilka and Obama are Similar

Agree or disagree? Add you comments below the letter.

Dear Avon Lake Voters:

It is clear that Zilka and Obama are very similiar. Both are liberal Democrats who have made their careers off government. Perhaps, Mr. Zilka was your child's teacher (Editor's note: Zilka was a longtime teacher at Avon Lake High School.) It makes sense as for over 26 years he has earned a government paycheck; school or city, but government. One wonders the time Mr. Zilka spent on councilif he ever introduced legislation supporting business. One wonders if Mr. Zilka ever worked in the private sector in a business or held a job outside of government. Obama is a lackluster leader and focused on government taking over our lives, destroying business and taxing us till we bleed; hopefully not Mr. Zilka.

Our country has much experience with change and what this present liberal President has worked to devalue--wealth, hard work, business and conservative values. Obama and Mr. Zilka both dress nice, come across as gentlemen, speak fairly articulate, but do we want their kind of change? Do we really want more government?

One only need look at his political philosophy and one might guess where he stands on business leaders who create wealth. His political philosophy should cost him the election.

Yet unlike Obama, Mr. Zilka  is quick to point out Avon Lake is non-partisan. Voters never took the time to find out about Obama and they sure got a surprise. Do we want the same surprise with Mr. Zilka?

The only people who have devalued wealth, hard work, businesses and conservative values in this country are Wall Street tycoons and their GOP servants. Granted, Obama has not been a strong leader and his negotiating skills stink, but I'll take him any day over a hedge fund baron like Romney or complete nutjobs like Perry, Paul and Bachmann.

Kathleen if you believe zilkas political philosophy should cost him his election, your articles should result in your deportation. Its amazing how your blog can make me happy and nauseous at the same time. I feel sorry for your husband. If i had to listen to your rhetoric for more two minutes at a time, i believe my large intestine would leap up and throttle my brain in order to protect it from further conservative contamination. My only question for you is have you ever been happy, or has your whole life been this tragic?

Wow! I wonder if you have ever really worked a day in your entire life. Business is important in this country, but its not everythng. Busness would be nowhere without labor. Brilliant businessman would not exist without education. Many of these elite you coddle would not be with us without safety forces and military soldiers. So, stop making entreprenuers out to be harder working than public employees. You may not be here havng this conversation if regulation did not stop business from polluting our air and water. Please stop with the ridiculous blogs!

Zilka is a common sense individual who knows how to get things done. Comparing him to another elected official in Washington is unfair and wrong. Mr. Zilka will get my vote for mayor !

Why is it the person who makes the post to the patch does so in a professional and civil maner yet any who respond to the post do so with a sixth grade writing ability and nothing but visceral hate mongering language. If you want to respond to a true post then do so as an adult and not a 6th grade student. I guess it is possible that children are responding, but I dont really think so...

Youdontknowme - I agree with you 100%. I may not agree with specific content of an author on the patch, but I do give them credit for taking the time to share their views. It is really disappointing when all the replies are not the credible supporting arguments or counter points you hope for. I read the articles to try to gain some perspective on the issues discussed. I believe the replies could be constructive, but sometimes they don't seem to validate or counter the opinion of the author.

Don't want to insult you, but just for the record you kind of called them illiterate, visceral 6th graders, but I will overlook your comment because it was nonetheless, a constructive point to make regarding the replies.

Kathleen, We all figured out you were the one sending the F.O.A. letters a few years back. FOA stood for friends of Andolson, but you know that. Letter receivers were openly criticizing Mayor Urbin during his tenor. You were his biggest supporter back then, why would anyone take advice from you now. You didn't have the courage to sign your nasty letters. I received two by the way, I should publish them for all to read. Mark Shiley

Responders to a post should be allowed the opportunity to be at least as ridiculous as the original article!

Greg Zilka is an honorable man and he deserves to be mayor of Avon Lake. Obviously, Kathleen, you have an ax to grind that has nothing to do with Greg's ability to govern this city. He already does! Bridge over troubled water, perhaps????

The citizens of Avon Lake have seen fit to elect and reelect Greg Zilka to council for over 25 years. Perhaps that is because they recognize a man of honesty and integrity when they see one. I am honored to call him my friend and my colleague since I am also a retired teacher who "lived off the government" for 35 years.

I think that it's time to stop printing this letter. Enough is enough and it's clear that Kathleen has personal issues with Greg Zilka that have NO place in the election process. Again, Greg Zilka is the person who deserves to be elected because of his proven service to the city of Avon Lake.
