Michael Laub Named New Superintendent

Laub to replace Jim Reitenbach

Michael Laub is Avon Local Schools' new superintendent, the Avon Board of Education announced Monday morning.

Laub's hiring will be officially approved May 2 at a special meeting of the Board of Education before a 6 p.m. public reception for him in the media center at Heritage North Elementary School.

Laub, who has served on the building and infrastructure committee for Avon Local Schools' Continuous Improvement Plan Committee, will take over when current superintendent Jim Reitenbach leaves at the end of the school year. Reitenbach, who has been superintendent in Avon since 1999, announced his resignation in December.

Finding Leaders, the business hired by the school board to help with the hiring of a new superintendent, conducted focus groups with residents, staff, administrators and board members. Some of the requests that came out of those groups were that the new superintendent live in Avon and that he or she has district-level administrative experience.

Laub is a resident of Avon, and has worked in Westlake and Strongsville in the past as a teacher, principal and adminsitrator. Most recently, he has been director of human resources in Westlake.

The School board really put a lot LOT of time, energy and commitment into making the very best choice for Avon. Its great that they included the community in the process with all the meetings. Kudos to the School board on a difficult choice and best of luck and welcome to Mr. Laub.
