Names in the News: Avon Police Chief Richard Bosley
How he thinks you can make a difference locally.
How well do you know Avon Police Chief Richard Bosley? He is this week's "Names in the News."
Occupation: Avon Police Chief
Hometown: Wellington, Ohio
What he likes about running the Avon Police Department: The short answer is the people. From the men and women of the Avon Police Department that I am proud to say I serve alongside to the residents, community leaders and business partners that we have the opportunity to work with on projects and problems.
Proudest accomplishment: There has been a few times in my career that I have bumped into someone years after they were a troubled youth or someone I arrested and they are now doing well in life and have relayed to me that their interaction with me as a police officer had a positive impact on their life. In law enforcement you don’t get to see the end results very often of many of your efforts and it makes times like that all the more rewarding.
Why he became a police officer: When I was younger I actually wanted to be accountant but I had an opportunity to study police science as a teenager and it seemed to be a good fit.
How he thinks you can make a difference locally: Get involved. Find a volunteer/service oriented program that you may have a passion for and pursue it. In regards to helping the police department I always recommend first to just try to be a good neighbor. Police Officers cannot be everywhere and when neighbors watch out for one another their communities are always better off. Get to know your neighbors, be respectful of each other’s privacy but look out for each other. Watch their homes when you know they are not home, keep an eye out for each other’s children and do not be afraid to call the police department to report anything suspicious.
Fun fact you didn’t know about the chief: Having a teenage child most of my free time is consumed with trying to make it to the events my son is involved in but when I have the time I do enjoy camping, hiking and kayaking.
