Pete Soto had his cake and ate it, too.
Soto, who had his birthday last Tuesday, was injured in an on-duty crash of his police motorcycle in October 2010, and the blood drive was created to honor the Avon police officer.
Avon canine police officer Chris Barton said the blood drive collected blood from around 37 donors. Two LifeShare Community Blood Service buses were parked out back to assist in the blood drive.
The non-profit LoCo Blue Foundation was created to assist Lorain County law enforcement officers injured on duty and the families of officers killed on duty.
