Plans in the Works For a Mitchell's Ice Cream Shop in Avon
Local company going in on Detroit Road
Coconut, banana cream pie, caramel fudge brownie, coffee chip, and raspberry cheesecake: These are just some of the delicious flavors that would be coming to Avon with the opening of the new Mitchell's Ice Cream shop this fall.
Pete Mitchell, co-owner of Mitchell's Ice Cream with his brother Mike, said they hope to open the Avon store in October, or sometime later this year.
The Avon store would be Mitchell's fifth. It has stores in Westlake, Rocky River, Beachwood and Solon.
Mitchell's Ice Cream also is available for sale at Heinen's, other supermarkets in Cleveland, and some restaurants.
“We are very excited to be opening a shop in Avon,” Mitchell said. “We feel it is a thriving community. Over the years we have had many requests from customers who drive to our Westlake shop or Rocky River shop, that they would love to have a Mitchell's closer to their home.”
Mitchell and his brother opened their first Mitchell's Ice Cream shop in Westlake in 1999.
“We thought it would be fun to make and sell ice cream in the city we have called home for most of our lives," he said. "We had no experience to speak of, but believed if we set our minds to it and dedicated ourselves fully to what we were doing, we'd be able to learn to make ice cream well and run a local retail ice cream company.”
Mitchell's prides itself on its local flavor and appeal. Besides its unique ice cream flavors, Mitchell's serves fat-free and dairy-free fruit sorbets, low-fat frozen yogurts, sundaes, shakes and malts, double-dip sodas, fresh fruit smoothies, and homemade ice cream cakes and pies.
That local appeal has given Mitchell's great success. It has been recognized as Cleveland's best ice cream for many years by Cleveland Magazine, Cleveland Scene, The Plain Dealer, Cleveland Jewish News, and other publications.
“We love what we do and hope to be able to continue to serve the Cleveland area for many years to come,” Mitchell said.
