Renovated Avon Isle is Ready To Serve

Avon landmark Avon Isle’s major renovations were complete in 2011, but a new ordinance approved this month –as well as a newly renovated “warming kitchen” -- means the building’s allure to renters is that much more significant now.

Shiny new floors, freshly painted walls and a rehabbed exterior beckon partygoers to the 3828-sq.ft. (4448 with the porch) building. The center, which seats 120 (capacity of 234 standing room) on the first floor, was recently approved to allow alcohol to be served.

“We just redid Avon Isle,” Avon Mayor Jim Smith said of the landmark in November. “We’ve had a lot of requests (for allowing alcohol).”

Alcohol would be permitted for events such as banquets, weddings, reunions, etc. at both locations. Other park properties will remain alcohol free.

Parks & Recreation director Diane Corrao said by law, alcohol can be distributed at no cost, but not sold, at private functions at the center. 

Susan Beres, the office manager at the Parks & Recreation Department, said the site would hold a maximum seating of 120.

“There is not enough room for any more in the space,” Beres said. “The kitchen is brand new; we had to install this to allow for food to be brought in to the Isle.”

The area now includes a sink, microwave, two under-counter refrigerators and an icemaker. Cooking is not allowed in what is referred to as the “warming kitchen.” It does allow catered food to be warmed or kept cold.

Previous renovations include the dance floor, main floor, ceiling, windows, walls and new bathrooms. External additions included a new roof, siding and porch – including a wheelchair accessible ramp.

Avon Isle is located at 37080 Detroit Road. The building, a former dance hall, was built in the 1920s and designated a historic landmark in 2010. The city of Avon purchased the building in 1997 and began restoration work in 2010.

Rental fees:

RESIDENTS -  $150 for first 2 hours, $35 per additional hour. A                        $200 refundable security deposit is required. 

NON-RESIDENTS & BUSINESSES - $200 for first 2 hours,                                 $50 per additional hour. A $250 refundable security deposit is required.
