The Salvation Army store in Avon will officially open on Jan. 26. The Salvation Army broke ground in May on its newest Northeast Ohio location, and as of Dec. 13, workers were putting items on racks inside the store.

“We’re now accepting donations,” Salvation Army Capt. Patrick Wilson said. Donations can be dropped off at the Main Street location (which connects SR 83 and Chester Road) at the rear of the building between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Wilson said plans initially called for a November opening, but the project experienced delays.

“We’re definitely set for Jan. 26.

The new store is 27,000 square feet and includes 19,000 square feet of shopping space filled with bargain-priced clothing, household items, electronics, books, toys, furniture and collectables. Budget-conscious shoppers can also shop the store’s even deeper “Family Day” discounts on Wednesdays.

“Our new Family Store will offer more selection and more bargains that appeal to everyone in order to provide our customers with a better shopping experience and support our social services work,” Wilson, who oversees The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Cleveland, said. “We really look forward to contributing to the community at all levels.”

The new store will bring more than 30 new jobs to the area.

The Salvation Army provides assistance for people in the community who are struggling with alcohol, drugs, and other life issues since revenues from the Family Store will support the charity’s rehabilitation center. This center offers services free of charge, and sales from the Family Thrift store are its sole source of funding. Families in need may also receive vouchers for free furniture or clothing from the store through other Salvation Army programs.
