A shiny new school year began in Avon Local Schools on Thursday.

Kids wore their special first-day outfits, had special first-day lunches and some had special first-day pictures taken.

Jackson Blodgett was glad the excitement was over after his first day of second grade in Tricia Plataniotis' class at Avon East Elementary School.

"It was fun," he said as he posed with his mom, Terrilynn, who came to pick him up after school.
