Take Shuttles To Romney Visit at Avon Lake High School

Shuttles will run from Bleser Park and Towne Center

While details are still being hashed out, Avon Lake Superintendent of Schools Bob Scott said shuttle buses will be available for those intending to see Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney Monday morning.

Romney is expected at Avon Lake High Schoo at 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 29. Doors will open at 9:15.

School buses will be running from Bleser Park and Towne Center starting at 9 a.m. Visitor will have to pass through metal detectors before being permitted in the school.

“The timing works out perfectly,” Scott said. “We’ll be just about done with our morning bus runs so we’ll just start running the buses.”

Scott said the plan is to have buses continuously run.

“I expect that once one bus is full, another will pull up and load,” Scott said.

Scott said he believes buses will stop dropping off as soon as Romney arrives on campus, at about 11 a.m.

Visitors can then return to Bleser and Towne Center by bus as soon as Romney leaves the school grounds.

“We’ll just reverse it,” Scott said.

More information on the event is here.

That's why the Romney campaign will be paying for the service.

Leslie, good question. We'll be looking into that this week; I was wondering that this morning. I'm guessing, but not certain, it comes from Romney's campaign. I wonder what a stop like this costs the campaign.

I dont think any campaign is billed. ( both sides ) One reason many towns turned down Romney's visit.

I think the Obama campaign has been stiffing a lot of small towns in New England, typical.

SOMEBODY has to pay for the police overtime, parking details, and all the traffic control. My guess is Bob Scott will give some wonderful and un-trackable verbage to explain it all politely away. But Avon Lake doesn't really need this kind of spotlight, (and I admit I am looking at it from a "what iff" side) if somethigng would go wrong. Does this really help the school levy campaign's chances, dollars spent on this, but asking for more and more money??

The political party will be billed and the school will be reimbursed.
