Trucker Spotted Watching Movie While Driving on I-90
Driver let off with a warning
Avon police pulled over a semi truck around 5:50 p.m. on Feb.10 after seeing the driver playing a movie on the dashboard DVD player while driving on Interstate 90.
He was also not using his turn signal, police reported.
Police issued a warning to the driver of the truck, which was registered out of New York, on paying attention.
Another out-of-state resident notified Avon Police that they received a phone call from someone from the "Department of Justice."
This time, a woman in Massachusetts told police that the man identified himself as Mike Johnson and that he threatened her if she did not send a check to him for $12,000 for a "loan." The woman said she hangs up on him and has notified police in her community. The phone number shows up on Caller ID as from Avon, and has a 440 area code.
Keep Roads Clear
Police had to warn a Falcon Crest Avenue resident around 5:38 p.m. on Feb. 7 to stop putting the snow he was clearing from his driveway onto the street.
The resident complained that the streets department had plowed snow onto his driveway, which is why he had to run his snowblower. Police told him to speak with the streets department on the matter, but if he was caught doing it again he would face charges.
Cell Phones Stolen
Two visitors to French Creek YMCA had their cell phones stolen somewhere before 9:09 p.m. on Feb. 10 after leaving them in unlocked lockers.
A 16-year-old girl was taken to juvenile detention after a fight with a 12-year-old girl around 10:20 p.m. on Feb. 10.
