UPDATE: Cat Dies, $100K in Damages in Lakewood Drive Fire
Woman taken to hospital for possible smoke inhalation after Nov. 12 fire.
A late afternoon house fire at 105 Lakewood Drive in Avon Lake Nov. 12 caused $100,000 in damages and injured one, according to the Avon Lake Fire Department.
One woman was home alone sleeping when the fire broke out just after 4:30 p.m. A press release said the woman was awakened by the sound of breaking glass and discovered the fire.
Firefighters from Avon, Bay Village and Sheffield Lake responded to the fire.
When firefighters arrived at the one-story wood frame house, fire was apparent on the south side living room. Firefighters contained the fire to the living room, where the fire started.
Neighbors reported the woman went to a neighbor’s house and banged on the door after discovering the fire.
Damage estimates are $75,000 to the structure and $25,000 in contents. The home and contents sustained severe smoke and heat damages.
The woman was taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. Her condition was not available at publication. An adult cat in the house died of smoke inhalation. No additional injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A press release said no smoke detectors were noted alarming when they arrived.
