Your Child’s Abstinence: Will You Address It?
Free seminar will steer parent on how to encourage abstinence.
- Is your child asking questions about sex?
- Are you concerned about “pop culture” messages about sex creeping into your child’s life?
- Do you want to be better equipped to help your child in dealing with sex and peer pressure?
If a parent answered “yes” to at least one of these questions, the Avon Local School District is hoping a seminar will help parents maneuver the tricky waters of children and sexuality.
Parents are invited to a free seminar to discuss promoting their abstinence for their children
“Your Child’s Sexuality & Promoting Abstinence” will be this month’s topic, starting at 7 p.m. at Avon Heritage South Elementary School’s Media Center on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
The free seminar will be open to parent as part of the Parent Seminar Series and led by Operation Keepsake.
“Operation Keepsake has been a part of parent seminar series for years,” Avon Middle School principal Dr. Craig Kohler said. “We stopped end of 2010 for two years because of finances.”
The approximately 90 minute session will help provide parents with tools to encourage celibacy and discuss sexual issues.
“It equips parents; they can learn what are factors involved.” Kohler said. The discussion will include sexually transmitted diseases and what parents need to know.
“It’s scary,” Kohler said. “But it’s something we need to remind parents. They think they have a handle on it and they don’t always. It’s awareness.”
Chris Roach of Operation Keepsake will lead the discussion.
Kohler said different presentations are offered to seventh-grade students.
Kohler has attended previous talks.
“They’re really riveting,” he said.
The seminar is the fifth in the Parent Seminar Series offered by the Avon Local School District.
