This past September I moved to Avon Lake.
I have spent most of my life in Lakewood. Lakewood will always have a very special place in my heart. I spent six years in Bay Village and found it to be centrally located for my business but I was not impressed with the city services considering what I was shelling out for it.
I have to say I am impressed with Avon Lake. Within the first week of moving here I received a welcome letter from my council person. He invited me to his next meeting to get acquainted. Of course I was too busy moving to go but I felt welcomed!
Then I received a letter from the water and sewer department. This letter told me about their services and how proud they are about what they do. I was impressed and felt really great to know that they were doing that.
Just recently I received a letter from the library inviting me to come for a visit. It also had a brochure about Avon Lake community organizations. I have never lived in a city that reaches out like this to their new residents.
Everything is so convenient with state of the art shopping centers all around SR 83 and I-90. Heinens is so beautiful I had to call a few of my friends to tell them it is like shopping in Hollywood! (I come from a grocery store background.) I can get used to this!
I live really close to Giant Eagle and they are definitely keeping up with Heinens with a fabulous produce, meat, wine and bakery department. They just don't have the same glitz and glamour but the discounts on gas can't be beat!
I did go to the library and all I can say is WOW! They have a wonderful space and a childrens center for hands on learning plus a special childrens library. The people were all very friendly. When I signed up for a new library card they even welcomed me to the nieghborhood!
The city just built a brand new pool with slides and all sorts of play yard contraptions. The school system ranks at the top. I can see why Avon Lake continues to grow. It is a really get place to live. I can't wait for the Lear road and I-90 exit to open. This will be so convenient. The Cleveland Clinic just opened a facility on Lear. With all this I can still buy fresh produce off the farmers stand just down the street!

Your words are so sweet. When I was thinking about relocating 15 years ago, I really had no idea where I wanted to move. I know I wanted a good school system for my child, a safe community, low taxes, and to be close to my job. Even though I worked in Avon Lake, I never thought I could afford it. As I poked around and asked questions, I was pleasantly surprised by the spectrum of home prices in Avon Lake. I found one in my price range and have been happily living close to Lake Erie ever since.
Sandy, if you have not yet attended a Friday night football game at the high school, please do so. It is a lot of fun and the pride of the community will shine.
