The Deer Issue: Council--get 'er done, please!

Dear Council:

I have watched the cable channel and have seen your concern that something be done regarding the overpopulation of deer. It has been two mating seasons for deer, however,  and I am still waiting to have these deer culled.

The overpopulation of deer is a safety issue. Council and the City of Avon Lake is on alert that deer are a safety issue and this city is responsible for doing nothing.

This week Jan.4 more than 10 deer stopped traffic walking across Walker Roads from the apple orchard on the south of Walker Road to the American Legion directly across the street on the north by Giant Eagle. It was with much distress that these deer walked across the road rather than scatter to cars and hurt or kill drivers who were stopped waiting for these idiot animals to get off the road.

Then a day later, five deer ran across the same road in the same place! Finally, Sunday in the same area one deer walked up the ditch and stood by the edge of the road and stopped traffic for almost 10 minutes while drivers waited to see if the deer would cross the street or come at them. This deer scattered back to the ditch.

The three incidents in one week were not coincidence as much as usual happenings in this specific area. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED! I have had two cars damaged by these deer.

Council must, must do something as someone is going to get killed. With the many senior citizens, new teen drivers and travelers unaware of the deer along our roads, the need to kill deer is now.

Please begin this process now.

After I sent this email to council on January 7, two more separate incidents of a herd of deer crossed both Lear Road and again on Walker Road. Vehicles were held up with many, like me, hoping that these dumb animals did not run to our cars as is very often the case. Deer are dumb animals, kill humans, destroy vegetation and spread disease--please get rid of them as Mentor is doing today!

Slow down when driving through this small town, be aware of the areas that are hazardous, pay attention to your surroundings- these are basic concepts of driving. If you can't handle that and get killed by a deer I think we can chalk it up as "thinning the herd." ;)

AND of all things, they did it across the street exiting an apple orchard !!!! WTH are they doing in an apple orchard.......I agree with Mr. Fernando, slow down, be aware, and pay attention AND enjoy the beauty......I think this writer is dumber than the deer.

I think this blog is really funny if you substitute the word republican for the word deer.

You're right! Like this sentence, "I have watched the cable channel and have seen your concern that something be done regarding the overpopulation of deer."

What bugs me is when I'm driving down Walker Rd and some inconsiderate IDIOT is tailgating me to go faster than 40 mph.

First of all, I'm not interested in getting a ticket for $135.00 just because you need to get home in time to watch your 'Redneck vacation' program.

Plus, I don't want to hit any deer!!!

Sure wish the A.Lake police department would pay more attention (ticket) to those who think its ok to harass other drivers into breaking the law.

Be nice if our city could selectively cull the deer so they don't have to starve to death this winter.

I say ticket the deer for causing a dangerous condition on the road. And remember "deer kill humans!!"

Ten minutes? Ten Minutes? Maybe you should have walked to Giant Eagle. It would have been faster. Next time set your DVR to record Ted Nugent when he is on Hannity's show.
The driver that can't remember to be careful at that busy deer crossing and gets into two separate collisions with them just might not be a smart as the deer.

This might be an excellent place for one of those "Deer Crossing" signs to which our author, a highly esteemed Patch columnist, has elsewhere in these pages objected. Speaking personally on behalf of my ilk, I would cross here if I saw it. It could save lives...Think about it, Humans of Avon and environs.

For God's sake Rudolph, it's bad enough Kathleen's campaigning to stamp out all deer in our time - imagine when she finds out about the herds of elk rampaging through Ohio.

If this is such an issue for you, why did you move into the deer's natural habitat and set up your home there in the first place?

I must now visit this site on the regular just to see the wonderful word stylings of this new community legend. The Larry the Cable Guy reference really helps to solidify the authors argument.

"Deer are dumb animals, kill humans, destroy vegetation and spread disease." Hmmmm...sounds familiar. You can replace "deer" with "humans" and it will still make sense.

MAybe she will next suggest culling the hreds of Bison in Yellowstone. They are big and smelly and hold up traffic there as well. So irritating!

See, and the real kicker is that even if Obama did spend some of his hard-earned, back-alley abortion money on some new "Deer Signs", it'd be a waste since, as we all now know, deer can't read. Thanks for nothing, Brock!

All sarcasm aside, I think you're just tremendous. Nowadays, the right tend to do a fine job of covering up their stupidity (relatively speaking). With this article, and others like it, it makes it easier for the reader to dismiss and move on. Kudos to you, madam.

The ONLY reason the deer took so long to cross was because he was reading the sign.....

I love that her best idea is spending taxpayer money and manpower to kill these deer rather than putting up a sign to warn motorists. amazing

Pffffft. Deer can't even read signs, so what good would that do? God, you're dumb!

I worry everyday about the deer overpopulating America. What if they try to get the right to vote? We need stronger voter ID laws to prevent the deer from electing all those liberal environmentalists!! The deer have to stop wasting our tax dollars and get jobs.

If I'm cruising down the road listening to Lee Greenwood or Billy Ray Cyrus, I don't want to have to worry about hitting a deer. Also, if I'm listening to a Larry the Cable Guy book on tape, same thing, these deer just support big government.

Yes, I approve. We must exterminate all lower forms of life at once. Only then shall man be truly safe as their rightful masters of the human race!
