The Avon Walmart is preparing for the Aug. 2 opening of the store’s expansion by hiring an additional 80 part and full-time employees. The store has been hiring since February but is stepping up its efforts to have the building staffed for the additional amenities. Walmart is in the process of adding 32,000 square feet to the store, located at 35901 Chester Road, making it a Supercenter with a grocery section that will include produce, meat, dairy and a bakery. When completed, the store will be 183,000 square feet. The Avon Lake Business Expo is Thursday, April 18 from 2-7 p.m. The event is hosted by the city's Economic Development Advisory Board and will be at Hinkley Lighting, 33000 Pin Oak Parkway. Admission is free to the public. Around 60 businesses will be in attendance for the first-time event, according to the Sun News. Businesses pay for their boothes and the proceeds go to the Community Investment Corporation, "which will provide low-interest, short-term loans to small businesses either established in the city or those looking to move into the area," the Sun News said.
