Marco's Pizza Awards Local School Challenge Winners with Grand Prize Dough

As schools across the nation continue to struggle with budgets and search for ways to earn extra funds, Marco’s Pizza, the fastest-growing pizza company in the United States, today announces the grand prize winners of the first annual Marcos.com School Challenge. Erieview Elementary School has been awarded $10,000 to be used for school programs they may have otherwise had to sacrifice. A check presentation by Marco’s Pizza will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Erieview Elementary School located at 32630 Electric Blvd. in Avon Lake.

Out of 154 participating schools, the community rallied together making local Erieview Elementary School one of this year’s Marcos.com School Challenge grand prize winners. With technology-based education programs on the rise, Erieview Elementary School aims to use the grand prize winnings towards technology advances such as new computers, tablets and all around school upgrades to stay on the forefront of educational innovation.

“We are extremely grateful to Marco’s Pizza for their generous donation and know it will help our school in more ways than one,” said Margo Bondar, PTA Vice President of Fundraising. “We can’t thank our community enough for supporting our school throughout this challenge. Everyone rose to the challenge with a mission to win. Without them, our grand prize award would not have been possible.”

From September 1st through April 30th, schools benefited by ordering pizza online during the school year, receiving Marco’s Pizza Points for their designated school. Customers were able to easily access a list of participating schools in Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit, Huron, Erie, Ashland, Start and Richland Counties in the Cleveland area. Over the school year, Marco’s Pizza contributed a grand total of over $100,000.

“I think everyone recognizes the importance of education and the beauty of this challenge is that it brings the whole community together in ways that benefit all,” said Matt Baker, Marco’s Pizza Area Representative. “The most fun was seeing what the schools were able to acquire for students with the funds raised through the Marco’s Program. We received a ton of thank you notes from elementary students who were grateful for new equipment their school purchased. Our goal was to give back to the community and have a bit of fun doing it. We can’t wait to see what is on the horizon for next year as we continue to give back directly to our local schools.”

Marco’s Pizza has set high goals for next year’s challenge hoping to attract 200 participating schools. The company will be awarding $50,000 in prizes, spread among the top 30 schools with the most Pizza Points. In addition, Marco’s Pizza will award two $500 monthly prizes to the schools with the most Marco’s Pizza Points each month.  Schools that pre-register for the 2014-2015 school year will be awarded 200 bonus points. This pre-registration period ends May 31, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. via http://marcos.com/challenge/rules-and-registration?area=1.

As the only national pizza chain founded by a native Italian, Marco’s has made its name in the growing $40 billion pizza industry by producing fresh, authentic, handmade artisan pizza. Italian food is famous for its quality and generous servings, and Marco’s prides itself on crafting every pizza in the tradition of the classic Italian cook by using ingredients that are fresh. At a time when 91 percent of Americans eat pizza once a month, more people are increasingly choosing the quality pizza that’s synonymous with Marco’s name.
