Bites Nearby: Let's Do Lunch!

Avon offers lots of options for midday munchies

It's lunchtime and you didn't have time to pack a lunch this morning. Your best friend called and suggested getting together for lunch. You're between Saturday soccer games and need some sustenance.

Fortunately, there are lots of places around Avon that can get you fed, whether you're looking for a quick lunch-hour break or something more leisurely. Here are some places to try:

: Every town should have a place like this -- a friendly atmosphere and homey food. It's the food version of "Cheers." There's something for everyone here, including the kids. Homemade favorites include soups, sandwiches, entrees like chicken paprikash and a wide variety of pies. So if, as Norm said, it's a dog-eat-dog world and you're wearing Milk-Bone underwear, get your comfort food fix here.

: Got a tight schedule and a tight budget? Stop by the Detroit Road hangout for its Quick Buck lunch. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., lunch is ready in 15 minutes or it's free. The menu includes salads, wraps, sliders and flatbreads, in lunch-sized portions. There's also the $5 special, where you can pick a soup and a salad or wrap. Its covered patio will also be open as the weather warms up.

: Conveniently located at the corner of French Creek and Detroit Road, family-friendly Avon Cafe offers sandwiches, wraps, soups, chili, hot dogs, smoothies, fresh baked desserts and signature coffees. There's also outdoor seating on its patio, and wifi.

: For those days where you just can't face another sandwich, there's Dervish. Turkish and Mediterranean fare make for a lunch break from the ordinary. Looking to keep it light? Try the white bean salad for a meatless lunch that's satisfying. There are also wrap versions of some dinner favorites such as chicken or lamb adana. There are also pasta dishes if the kids are feeling too picky for kebabs.

: An ample selection of sandwiches and wraps, appetizers and entrees, plus a kids menu, means there's something for just about everyone. The outdoor seating is another treat as we put winter in the rear-view mirror.
