Avon Lake Community Garden will have ready water supply

will celebrate its Grand Opening on Friday, June 1 at noon (rain date is Saturday). Gardeners, donors, friends, and the general public are invited.

Those who secured  one of more than 140 sold-out plot need to attend a gardeners’ meeting on Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at the

“At this meeting, you will receive a map of the garden, your assigned plot(s) and the combination for the different locks,” Dale Cracas, one of the garden’s organizers, said.

Holly Moore Kowalski, who has helped with the planning of the garden said hundreds of man-hours have been expended to move in additional top soil and to add soil amendments.

“Dozens of volunteers removed sticks, stones and other debris " Kowalski said.

Earlier last week, a work crew from Avon Lake Municipal Utilities installed water service to the Community Garden. The water line, with numerous spigots, will provide an easy water supply for gardeners to tend to their plots. (The water is not drinkable, however.)

Utilities’ staff stayed within the $5,000 budget approved by the Board and the Community Garden organization is prepared to pay for the water, as originally agreed.

The Community Garden is located at 237 Belmar Blvd.
