Forget Hinckley: Buzzards Land in Avon Lake

Birds prefer house with a lake view. Almost two dozen buzzards make home in Pin Oak trees next to water filtration plant

Perhaps these birds didn’t get the message. Or perhaps they prefer a lake view to the Hinckley Reservation the buzzards allegedly return to each year.

But on March 27, more than 20 buzzards gathered in two Pin Oak trees on Lake Road, just east of the . Passers-by stopped their cars and pulled out their cameras and cell phones to snap a few photos, or video, of the majestic birds. 

According to local lore, the buzzards, or turkey vultures, return to Hinckley Reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks each March 15.

The buzzards’ return is considered a sure sign spring is around the corner, even if the day started at 28 degrees.
