Love-A-Stray and Petco Team for Pet Adoption

Avon Petco and local non-profit hope to find homes for homeless or unwanted pets

It's a cloudy afternoon in Avon and, like every Sunday, Brenda and Tina occupy a small but prime space inside the at Avon Crossings.  They have a table covered with a colorful cat print cloth, and eight cats are huddled comfortably on and around the table.

The cats are only a handful of the pets currently available for adoption from Love-A-Stray.  Love-A-Stray is a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill organization dedicated to helping homeless animals. The group estimates about 250 are in its foster care program.

While there is an epidemic of stray and homeless pets, Brenda accentuates the positive.

"I don't focus on the number of cats in our foster care, I focus on the adoptions," she said.

Love-A-Stray is determined to place these animals from "nurturing foster families into loving, compatible, permanent homes."

Members also educate people on the importance of being an advocate for animals by emphasizing humane treatment and sterilization.

At Petco, Brenda and Tina provided a brief biography of each cat, including unique traits and a story of how they entered the foster home.  For example, T.K, a one year old black cat, was named after the trash can where he was found.  Thomas, a one year old tiger/tabby, was found sleeping in a car and often chased cars in the parking lot where he was found.

Passionate about their cause, volunteers Brenda and Tina keep the faith.

"We're here every Sunday with the hopes of finding homes for these cats," Brenda said.
