What has turned into one of Avon Lake’s larger events, The Big Splash, will be repeated this year on Sept. 7 at the Ellen Trivanovich Aquatic Center in Bleser Park. Music, food and games are all part of the deal. The event starts, rain or shine, at noon.
“This year local DJ is Musik Masters DJ,” Renee Nowak, one of the event organizers, said. “Fido’s Rescue will expand concession stand.”
Raffles and T-shirts will be available for purchase as will Partners With Paws calendars.
Is your dog a star? Big Picture Photography might snap your pet if he/she is a winner.
“The first 250 registrants will get a dog paw towel,” Nowak said.
More than 50 volunteers are expected to be on hand to help out at the Big Splash, including water and poop patrol crews.
The Big Splash will feature 14 contests, including biggest splash, a bathing suit contest and biggest and smallest dogs.
Nowak is hoping for a good turnout for what is one of Love-A-Stray’s biggest fundraisers.
“This year quite a few ‘special’ cases so we’re hoping to raise enough for some of those,” she said.
More than 400 dogs are expected when the city pool, officially closed to humans only for the season, turns into a very wet dog park.
The party runs from noon to 5 p.m. Dogs (and their owners) from surrounding communities are welcome. Cost is $8 for one dog, $15 for two and $5 for those attending without a pet.
“Yes, people who don’t have dogs are welcome,” Nowak said. Retractable leasher are not permitted at the event.
Love-A-Stray and FIDO's Companion Rescue will have dogs available for adoption at the Big Splash. For more information, visit www.loveastraydog.com. The pool is located at 32850 Electric Blvd. (near SR 83) in Avon Lake with entrances off of both Electric Boulevard and Lake Road.
The Big Splash is rain or shine.
