Friends of Avon Library Art Reception

A reception, sponsored by The Friends of Avon Library, will be held for the May Art Show for local artists, patrons and friends, Thursday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Teen Volunteer Night At Avon Branch Library

Sixth through 12th graders can explore the many volunteer experiences available at the Avon Branch Library, Monday, May 21 at 7 p.m. Food, fun and video gaming will be included.

Adult Afternoon Book Discussion

Adults are invited to join the Afternoon Book Discussion Group when it meets, Tuesday, May 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. The group will discuss, Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. Copies of the book are available at the Library. New members are welcome. 

Computers for Beginners

A Computers for Beginner class will be held, Thursday, May 24 at 6 p.m. at Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. The class will provide a hands-on introduction to identify computer parts and how the Windows operating system works. Preregistration is required by calling the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743.

Library Closed Memorial Day

The Avon Branch Library will be closed, Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.

Babysitting Basics Training

Eleven year olds and up are invited to attend the two-session Babysitting Basics classes, Saturdays, June 2 and June 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. Babysitting Basics training will be presented by the American Red Cross. Participants must attend both sessions for certification. Fee required.

Join the Summer Reading Program

We’re celebrating the night this Summer at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library as children “Dream Big,” teens “Own the Night,” and adults “Read Between the Covers”. The Summer Reading Programs begin June 4 and ends Aug. 4. Children and teens may earn prizes for reading throughout the Summer. Adults may enter a weekly drawing to win prizes.

All Summer long, special events and activities will also be held at the Avon Branch Library in celebration of the Summer Reading Programs. Children and teens may sign up at the Avon Branch Library to join the Summer Reading Program starting June 4.

Children's Summer Reading Kick-Off Event With Starlab

Experience the stars at the Avon Branch Library! Join us in the STARLAB inflatable dome planetarium as we take an interactive look at our universe during our Children’s Summer Reading Kick-Off Event, Monday, June 4 at 6 p.m. Children of all ages with a caregiver are invited to discover the wonders of the night sky. Watch the moon change phases and the movement of the summer constellations. The show will run for 20 minutes for groups of 20 at a time. The Children’s Summer Reading Program is funded by a grant from The Stocker Foundation.

Container Gardening Program

 A Container Gardening program will be held, Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. Pinehaven Garden Center of Avon will share techniques and ideas for using mixtures of flowering annuals, herbs and vegetables together in a variety of types of pottery to design the perfect container gardens for the summer. Preregistration is required by calling the Avon Branch Library at 440-934-4743.

Evening Book Discussion for Adults

Adults are invited to join the Evening Book Discussion, Wednesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. The group will discuss, Moloka'i by Alan Brennert. Copies of the book are available at the Library. New members are welcome.

Friends Of The Avon Library Meeting

The Friends of the Avon Library will hold a business meeting, Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library. New members are welcome.

Own The Night Poetry Contest

Third through 12th graders, participate in the Lorain Public Library System’s Own The Night Poetry Contest, June 4 through July 7. Pick up an entry form at the Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch Library, and submit your original poem to our contest by July 7. Winners will receive a poetry journal and other prizes.
