Creative Cooking in Avon Branch Library Competition

Kids show off culinary creations

While participation was lighter than normal in this year's Summer Reading Program Cook-Off at the , kids still enjoyed being able to show off their culinary creativity.

Library associate Nancy Tumek said the timing of this year's cook-off was the likely cause of less participants. In previous years, she said, it was in June. Having it the week after Fourth of July weekend was probably not the best idea, she said.

"Kids were probably busy with the holiday, or went on vacation," Tumek said. "I think we'll probably plan it for a differnt day next year."

Julie Balcik and Kathy Glauner of showed up to judge the entries. Abbewood Senior Living in Elyria provided gift cards for the prize-winners.
