‘Fall into Avon’ is Sept. 7, 8 in French Creek District

For decades residents of Avon and northern Ohio have celebrated the start of the Fall Season with its annual Fall into Festival (aka “Country Living Festival”). Antique Dealers from the region descend on Avon to display and sell their treasures. French Creek merchants feature fall décor for the home and seasonal fashions for men, women and children, while Avon restaurants offer gourmet specials, guaranteed to tempt any palate. Attendees are able to take advantage of fabulous deals at sidewalk sales and in-store specials.

The weekend also feature “The Taste of Avon,” sponsored by J.L. Smith Group. Sample tidbits from local restaurants, and listen to the music of live local bands. The Kid’s Pavilion, hosted by Avon Oaks Nursing Facility & Acorn Childcare, features activities for children including a tumbling area, face painting, children’s craft project, a magic show, bounce house, coloring contest and a more child-friendly activities.

A Scarecrow Competition, sponsored by The Old Avon Village, will demonstrate the creativity of individuals of all ages. The exhibits will be available in The Olde Avon Village throughout the weekend for everyone’s enjoyment. Local personalities will be judging the exhibits and present the $500 Grand Prize along with numerous other prizes.

This year’s festival welcomes Dick Goddard as its guest to the First Federal of Lakewood Pet Pavilion, Saturday at 1 p.m. where he will speak about the bill officially known as “The Goddard Act.” A pet food drive has been organized by PetPeople. Collected items will then be disbursed to the local animal rescue groups involved in the event:  Elyria APL, Avon’s Love-A-Stray for cats and Second Hand Mutts. Anyone donating food and supplies will have their name entered to win a pet basket and gift card from PetPeople.

Local organizations will be offering information for their upcoming events and causes. CRS will be hosting a food drive. Anyone donating non-perishable food items will have their name entered in a drawing for various prizes.

A classic car show, sponsored by State Farm-Reed Allen Insurance, is scheduled for Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (rain date-Sunday). The cars will be judged and prizes will be awarded in various categories. A BMX and skateboard challenge, sponsored by Randall’s Team Shop, will allow youths in divisions of U14 and 14 years and older to match their skills.

Kick off the weekend festivities by joining the French Creek Joyce Buick GMC Golf Challenge being held at Bob-O-Link Golf course on Friday, Sept. 6. A Hole-in-One car giveaway is being sponsored by Joyce Buick GMC.

The French Creek District is located along Detroit Road in Avon. Most of the activities are located between Routes 83 and 611, and on Stoney Ridge Road, just south of Detroit.
