Five Things This Weekend: Crushers, Eagle Run and Memorial Day

It's a busy holiday weekend in Avon!

  1. Welcome back, Crushers! Avon's own have their home opener at 7:05 p.m. Friday at against the Joliet Slammers. The weekend series also includes games at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 5:05 p.m. Sunday. Attendees on Sunday can bring their dogs to the first Dog Day of the season. The Crushers are off on Memorial Day.
  2. Get some exercise at Saturday morning's . The annual road race  at All Pro Freight Stadium. The event raises money for the Avon Schools Educational Endowment Fund and other charities.
  3. Enjoy your Memorial Day, but take some time to remember the real meaning of the holiday at Monday's 9 a.m. on Detroit Road between the and Center Road. A ceremony honoring those who died serving America will be held after the parade.
  4. If you've got some bare spots in your landscaping, or want to give your green thumb a workout, the Avon Garden Club is holding a from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday at the .
  5. Does this weekend's unofficial beginning of summer have you hungry for some barbecue? Satisfy that hunger at the Marc's Great American Rib Cook-Off from Friday through Monday at the Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica on the west bank of the Flats in Cleveland. In addition to noshing on ribs, there will also be concerts by Bruce Hornsby, Collective Soul and Seether.
