Why Go: Experience the forceful destruction of tornadoes and what they can do as they rip through towns and countrysides. Follow a camera crew, filmmaker Shawn Casey and the research team of VORTEX 2 as they take on high winds and flying debris to study the center of the tornado, a feat never before accomplished outside of Hollywood film sets.

Where/When: Avon United Methodist Church, Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Enjoy homemade soup, baked goods and hot coffee as you browse through the treasures at the Avon United Methodist Church’s annual Spring Rummage Sale. Snag a deal on some new (to you) furniture, home décor items, clothing, toys and more. Find a cast-off treasure or enjoy the refreshments and community interaction. Donations of items have been brought in from several families and there’s something for everyone to find.

When/Where: 1502 Lear Industrial Pkwy, Avon, 8 a.m. May 21
Why Go: Summer’s almost here and it’s time to get in shape. Jazzercise classes are at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. The class is sponsored by Chicks Against Hunger.

When/Where: Avon Lake’s parks, public properties
Why Participate: It’s Lorain County Pride Day. Here’s your chance to help spruce up your town even more. The city is looking for volunteers to paint fire hydrants and clean up parks. Why Go: Preschoolers 3 and over learn about nature through crafts and a short hike. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This event is family friendly for preschool children. Preregister by calling the Park District Office at 800-526-7275.
