Open Mic Goes Outside for Nationally Recognized Singing Duo

Duo will perform, weather permitting, at Veterans Memorial Park in Avon Lake.

The city of Avon Lake-sponsored Open Mic program will move from the confines of the Old Firehouse to the scenic fresh air of Veterans Memorial Park in June.

On Thursday, June 13, attendees are welcome to bring a guitar and a song, or just come and listen and enjoy some free cookies and coffee and a Lake Erie sunset.

This month’s featured act is the nationally recognized duo of Steve Mramor and Cathy Finegan. The evening will follow the same format as previous Open Mic sessions.

“Steve is an accomplished songwriter known for his work in the band Witch and Toad, as well as his collaboration with Cleveland folk legend Charley Brown," Open Mic Host Bob Sammon said. "Adding Finegan's voice gives the duo great harmonies on original songs as well as their covers of acts such as the Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel.”

Gerrone also gave the duo props.

It chronicles the death of Steve’s uncle in the mine in Franklin.”
