Tickets on Sale for Shoremen Brass Classic

The second-annual Shoremen Brass Classic Drum Corps International (DCI) competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Avon Lake High School's Memorial Stadium, and tickets are now on sale.

The Avon Lake Band Aids Inc. – in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Richard E. Jacobs Health Center in Avon is presenting this lively competition, featuring 12 DCI drum and bugle corps from across the United States, as well as from Quebec and Taiwan. Tickets are now available at Rettig Music, 26469 Center Ridge Rd., in Westlake.

“We are very excited to offer our assistance and support for this great event,” Tim Rettig said.  “Rettig Music is a strong advocate for music in our schools and we make every effort to endorse outstanding programs such as the Shoremen Brass Classic. If you have never been to a DCI show, I strongly urge you and your family to attend this event for an exceptionally fun and exciting evening.”

DCI, considered Marching Music’s Major League, is a powerful, global youth activity with far-reaching influence.  The members of these drum corps – high school and college-aged youths – have gone through extensive physical and musical training to become skilled performers, impressing crowds across the nation with their high-energy musicianship and marching. The Summer 2013 tour includes approximately 100 shows across the nation.

In addition to the Cleveland Clinic, other key sponsors of the Shoremen Brass Classic 2013 include Backpackers Shop, Dover Home Remodelers, Driscol Music, and Rettig Music. Sponsorship opportunities are still available; contact Stacey Litzler at 440-930-2079 for more information.

The event has drawn strong local support, including the Cleveland Clinic.

“The Cleveland Clinic is committed to supporting important community events and believes the Shoremen Brass Classic 2013 will greatly benefit all,” Richard E. Jacobs Health Center Administrator Kosta Mathiellis said.

Last year, with six corps competing, the event drew an audience of 2,500, filling about three-quarters of the home-side seats.

“The popularity and success of last years’ show indicate that seating for this year’s event could very possibly sell out,” David Eddleman, Director of Avon Lake City Schools Instrumental Music Department and DCI Board Member said. “Advanced ticket purchases will be the only way to guarantee admission.”

Pre-sale tickets are $8 (general admission) and $12 (premium seating).  Tickets will be sold at the gate the night of the event for $10 and $15.
