Want to help HONOR our Veteran’s?

Veteran's Memorial Park will be receiving a "Blue Star Memorial Marker" this year! Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club has chosen this project to honor all the Armed Forces of the United States.

BLUE STAR MEMORIAL - A TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS

Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club has elected to present to the city of Avon Lake a “Blue Star Memorial”.  The city welcomes this project and the memorial will be installed at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

At the close of World War II, garden clubs were looking for ways to honor their servicemen and women.  The National Garden Clubs, Inc. (Avon-on-the-Lake is a member) started this project and named it for the Blue Star which hung in windows of homes and businesses honoring American servicemen and women.

While the project originally began to honor World War II veterans, it was expanded to include all men and women who had served, were serving or would serve in the armed forces of the United States. Memorial Markers were placed in National cemeteries, parks, veteran’s facilities and gardens. Currently there are about 4,000 Blue Star Memorials across the United States.

The Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club has a financial target of $2,000 and needs the help of the community, local clubs and other civic organizations to reach this goal.   We would be very grateful for any donation you can make to this project.  Please note that no individual names will be listed on the memorial itself, but donors will be listed in an  “Official Program” that will be distributed at the Dedication Ceremony later this year.
