Avon Lake vs. Hathaway Brown on 9/26/13

Avon Lake traveled to the east side of Cleveland to take on Division II power Hathaway Brown last Thursday.  HB is an academically rigorous, college preparatory, all girls school and apparently they had a major exam or important term paper due the next day as they were intent on quickly dispatching the Shoregals in a 3-0 victory.

The game had a 4:30 start time as opposed to the regular 7:00 p.m. start and HB scored in the first 20 seconds of the game and then scored again a few minutes later to effectively put the game out of reach for the Shoregals.  They added another goal late in the second half to complete the scoring.  The Blazers offense was provided by senior Claire Danes with two goals and the appropriately named Tally Clark who added another goal.

In goal for HB was sophomore Clair O’Brien who recorded 4 saves and for Avon Lake senior Amy Crooks made 7 saves and soph. Elise Duvall was credited with 4 saves.

The JV Shoregals continued their stellar season with a 2-0 blanking of the Hathaway Brown JVs.  Scoring goals for the Shoregals were sophomore Emily Herman and freshman Mila Zunich.   In the nets for the JV Shoregals was soph. goalie Elise Duvall who recorded her 8th shutout of the season.  The entire JV defense has been outstanding this year as they have been instrumental in helping to earn those 8 shutouts or as they are called in soccer terminology – “clean sheets”.  With this latest victory, the JV Shoregals move to 8-1-3 on the year.   

Next up for Avon Lake is a match with Padua on Monday 9/30 and on Wednesday 10/2 we are hoping for a big crowd for Senior Night vs. Olmsted Falls.
