Avon Couple Opening 24-Hour Fitness Center in Learwood Plaza

An Avon couple is opening a 24-hour fitness center in Learwood Square that includes a 900-sq.-ft Fitness on Demand workout room.

Infinity Health & Fitness will open Monday, July 8.

Kendra and Pat Murphy said they originally had their eyes set on a Rocky River location to open Infinity, but after that fell through, opted for the Learwood location.

“Once we saw the space, we knew,” Kendra said. “This is a really healthy area.”

The space has had several uses over the years, transforming from a flooring gallery to the Lorain County Republican headquarters and most recently the space where Avon Lake artist Judy Kean created a Guitarmania piece.

“We only live about 10 minutes away and this is a growing area,” Pat said of the location, noting that with the recent opening of the Nagel interchange, the area is quick to get to.  “There are a few fitness places around here…but other than that, we’re the only 24-hour fitness center in the area.”

The location will be staffed from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Members will have an access card to enter during unstaffed hours. Security cameras and panic buttons will be installed prior to the center's opening.

The couple, which has a 9-month-old and a 4-year-old, met at Global Technical Recruiters 11 years ago, another business owned by Pat.

“We always talked about opening a gym and we both enjoy working out,” Kendra said.  “Last November, we decided to go after this.”

In addition to a slew of free weights, dumbbells and kettle bells, the gym has treadmills, each with its own television screen, a spray tan center.

“We do expect to get some heavy hitters in here,” Kendra said.

They hope it is the first of numerous 24-hour Infinity locations.

Fitness on Demand

The gym also features a state-of-the-art Fitness on Demand in its 900-sq-ft. workout room for individuals or groups. A large drop-down screen will feature one of 75 pre-taped classes from yoga and Pilates to abs to a beach-body workout.

Kendra said that initially classes will be first-come, first serve, but may be more structured in September as membership grows. Live fitness classes, personal training and specialty classes are being planned.

The gym is currently offering a discounted monthly membership with no enrollment fee. Contact 440-653-9395 or email membership@infinityhealthfit.com for more information.
