Giant Eagle Ending Foodperks, Fuelperks Expanding

The Foodperks program is 'a little too complex.'

UPDATED FEB. 4: 1:40 p.m.

Giant Eagle is ending Foodperks, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but is expanding Fuelperks.

The last day to earn Foodperks will be Feb. 13 and discounts must be redeemed by May 31.

According to a letter obtained by the newspaper, the CEO said customers thought the Foodperks program was "a little too complex." The program gave customers a 1 percent discount on groceries for every 10 gallons of gas purchased at GetGo gas stations.

Customers were queried at checkout if they would like to redeem Foodperks or save the discount for future use.

Foodperks began in 2009.

Giant Eagle's popular Fuelperks program will remain and expand. Fuelperks gives customers 10 cents to 20 cents off a gallon (depending on specials) for every $50 spent. Fuelperks are redeemable at GetGo gas stations, including one in Avon.

According to Pittsburgh's wpxi.com, under the expanded program, GetGo customers will receive 3 cents off per gallon even if they don't have any Fuelperks discounts accumulated.

Giant Eagle is located on Lear Road in Avon Lake. GetGo is located in Avon on Chester Road.

Don't get too excited people, that picture is from 2009 or 10. Gas is NOT that cheap. Unfortunately.

Oh no! We love the foodperks program and have saved so much money from it...so disappointing....

I've saved a bunch from Fuelperks, for the cheap gas. At least that is staying.

Never found the Foodperks program confusing but that's just me. It was why I tended to gas up at GetGo as often as possible, instead of gas stations slightly closer to home. Without the Foodperks program, I'll be using GetGo less frequently - mostly when I have a Fuelperks discount to use up.

We will miss the foodperks, not hard to figure out! One clear explanation from a cashier was that was needed.
